Peachy Heaven

Jade, the peaches made the trip home safe & sound and are now happily part of a kuchen.  J.R. is a very happy camper!  Thanks again for a great visit!

Don't tell my grandma, but here you go. The original recipe is for plums but it works great with peaches, too. I've even used apples, but not my fav.

Grandma's Kuchen
1 1/4 c flour
1/4 sugar
1/2 t salt
1 t baking powder
Sift those ingredients.
1/2 c (one stick) of butter
Cut this into the dry ingredients
2 egg yolks
2 T milk
Mix these two final ingredients in until you have a nice dough. It may be a little crumbly. Press it into the bottom & halfway up the sides of a 9x13 pan. It works best if the dough is cold, and you may want to use the butter wrapper to do the pushing if it is too sticky.

Next cut peaches in half and remove the pits. Cut enough to cover the whole pan, skin side down.

Cover with the streusel topping & sprinkle with cinnamon.
Streusel Topping:
1 c sugar
3T flour
3T butter
Mix until butter works into small crumbly bits.

Bake @ 375 degrees about 30 minutes or until the middle is bubbly. Technically you should let it cool before serving. I don't know that I've ever managed that feat. It just smells too good!

oops... just scrolled down. here's the molasses cookie recipe:

Molasses Cookies

1 1/3 cup oil
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
4 cups flour
4 t soda
5 t cinnamon
1/2 t salt

Mix wet, then add dry. Roll into balls, roll in sugar.
Bake on parchment at 350 for 10-12 minutes. They will be golden brown. once you take them out, transfer to flat surface and squish down flat with a large measuring cup. this will ensure density and soft texture.
